The Chaplin Challenge !!!

My first post in over a year, and i thought i’d reboot the website by issuing myself a challenge, and it’s a biggie. My only knowledge of Charlie Chaplin, came from watching the 1992 Richard Attenborough movie biopic, Chaplin, starring Robert Downey Jr, as the little tramp. I absolutely loved the movie, and immediately wanted to know more about Chaplin, his life, his work, and the world he came from and lived in. This desire promptly trod a path into oblivion, and only recently resurfaced, thanks to his autobiography, which i’m currently listening to on Audible,

Listening to this excellent book i suddenly realised i haven’t seen a single Chaplin movie, not one. So much for calling myself a fan. So the challenge is simply this, to watch every Chaplin movie ever made, in chronoligical order. I’ve equipped myself with as many of his films as i can find, including a number of documentaries, so i’m good to go. Most of his early works are no more than 15-20 minutes long, so setting the time aside to complete this mammoth task shouldn’t be a problem. His first film, Making A Living, is the first step in this long journey, and it’s a journey i’m very much looking forward to undertaking. Wish me luck, i’m going in……

I am passionate about movies and cinema generally. I love talking about them and writing about them.

Think i’m the opposite Lee. I own loads of Chaplin movies but haven’t actually seen any of them. That’s why i’ve taken on this challenge. After Chaplin i’ll be taking on the movies of Buster Keaton followed by Laurel And Hardy, Harold Lloyd and all the other silent comics i’ve missed out on. Can’t wait…….
